Finally I finished my book. Finally. I gave it to my children to read. "The best shell book of your lives?", I eagerly enquired on the day they turned the last page. This question they sidestepped with the ease of born diplomats, instead subjecting me to a Hurricane of Questions:

"What's a Dead Shell? What's a Live Shell? I've read this whole book, and I do not understand one single thing about dead or live shells."

"What's the Inside and the Outside? Inside and Outside what?"

"What's a Cut? What's a Bight? Why don't you have a Map?"

"Who's Celine? I hate Celine. Can her. Get rid of Celine. This book is about Shells, Mummy - Shells, not Celine."

"What's this Uncle Tom's Cabin stuff Mummy? We live in the modern age - no Uncle Tom slaves here. That kind of talk is insulting to your readers."

"Why did you write this book Mummy? You don't even tell us the reason you wrote it."
